The last group fixture features Spain vs Greece and Sweden vs Russia
A meaningless game for Spain means that they threw out all their bench warmers into the starting lineup. Alonso, Guiza, Fabregas, Garcia, Santi....
To see Alonso as the captain thrills me a bit. it's always an honour to be a team's captain and I am sure I'll be missing him if he really leaves Liverpool in the summer.
Performance-wise, the team played quite safely. A bad goal to concede when the freekick from Karagounis was not properly defended and Charisteas scored his first goal of the tournament. Luckily, Greece was again toothless in open play and Spain was just lucky to have won the game through the less-known striker Daniel Guiza.
Another game in this group is much more important. Just when most of the people underestimated Russia and predicted a Sweden win, Russia won with a rather spectacular fashion with the introduction of Arshavin, the playmaker who just won UEFA Cup a few months ago. Pavlyuchenko is on the score sheet, so was Arshavin. Guus Hidink showed his magic again with another quarter finals appearance.
Sweden just have to admit that their squad needs some fresh faces. The whole squad is no different than the one in last campaign, and it is always important for any team to have the correct mixture of experience and youth to be successful.
But of course, FOOTBALL IS JUST TOO FAKE!
