LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
This is a sensitive issue, this is a popular issue, this is a highly debatable issue.
And when chengshounanTM talks about this in this blog, we as fans and friends must followsuit and take this issue seriously. LOOOOOL.
感情信仰=the beliefs of LOVE
This is a very technical word to use. To ensure 100% understanding, Pls repeat the pronunciation of this word

Hehe. I am seriously not very qualified to talk on this topic, but I think I am the "感情可以培养" (Love can be cultivated) type. Just read our chengshounanTM 's blog for clearer understanding.

EURO 08 Final

Finally, it's all over, and this post will mark the end of my EURO08 post-match analysis.
Viva Espana, after 44 years, Spain finally win a major international title. This is a very special moment. They finally take off their "under achievers" tag, and with so much criticism on their squad before the competition began (Especially me!), they can finally stand proud and tall.
Although my fantasy of Torres scoring a hat trick in the finals did not happen, but he scored a crucial and worthy goal. Yes, he missed a couple, but that goal was an indication of his extraordinary ability, the scary pace. I feel sorry for Lahm. Many blame him for the winning goal, but in one on one situations against Torres, there aren't many defenders who can claim advantage over him.
Again, what I think as a blessing as disguise (Villa's injury) was again evident. With Fabregas in the team makes Spain more balanced and threatening. Ballack, the unlucky player who can be one of football's biggest loser (He has been runners-up for many trophies), was cleverly contained by Spain's 5 man midfield. Senna for me was again fantastic. It has been clear why Aragones pick him over Alonso for the defensive midfield role. He has been fantastic from Day 1, he never gives the ball cheaply, he can pass precisely and efficiently, and he can win balls. He is truly an unsung hero for the champions.
Congrats to Spain for their victory. I personally feel sorry for underestimating them. However, Puyol to me is still not a world class defender, and Spain still have problems in the future awaiting them. A new coach takes time to regroup the team. Spain and Italy's glory has just passed, and I wonder when England's turn is.

EURO08 Day 17 & 18 (Semi Finals)
Before starting anything, I would like to advertise PohKim aka CHENG SHOU NAN's new blog
PK ON BLOG!!!!!!

Since I had started all the trouble by writing the 1st post on EURO08, I have to continue and not to disappoint any loyal readers out there. (This would be the second last post on match analysis, I didn't really notice how much I have written.)
1st MATCH: Germany 3-2 Turkey
Unlucky Turks!
This may well be the main headlines for the back page of many newspapers. A last minute goal is always hard to accept and I sometimes find this more cruel than penalties to the losing side.
Turkey deserves all the praises. From their first match defeat to a last group match comeback win over Czech (and Cech) to another shocking win against the impressive Croatians and to semi final encounter with Germany, their whole journey has been a fairytale to the country.
Of course, the fans would love to see their team in the finals, but no one would expect them to progress so far. Standing from a neutral point of view, in terms of technique, the Turks were similar to the Germans. Turkish is one of Germany's main labor force and many Turkish in the team speak good German and live like German, eg Hamit Altintop. So, there are some similarities in their play, but the Turks have something extra, something hot and spicy---Passion and Determination and Courage. Their never say die attitude is scary, but no one would expect Phillip Lahm, the highly-rated full back to allow the Turkish to equalize on one end and score on the other end a few minutes later. Hearts broken, end of story.
Pls note that Germany were not particularly impressive in this game. They didn't control the whole match to their benefit, and they lost possession quite easily. They have to thank Rustu for allowing them to take the lead, as well as "Lady Luck".

2nd MATCH: Spain 3-0 Russia
Another 3 goal margin win against the Russians, but with some different players on the pitch for both sides. The wonderful and magnificent Arshavin of Russia was highly praised and was chased by a few number of top clubs after his display against Holland. Many anticipated that his return to the team facing Spain will give them hope for a revenge. A 4-4-1-1 was indeed laid out by Hiddink this time round to try and give the Spaniards trouble.
Football sometimes can be funny and ironic. IF Villa was not injured, I think there might be another ending to this game. Arshavin is clever in finding spaces between the defense and midfield line. Spain's Marcos Senna is the one pulling the strings and providing protection to the back four. One of his main job is to make sure Arshavin is always within his sight. Marchena and Puyol might have some minor problems against the big Palyvuchenko, and Zhirkov is always marauding on the flank. Thus, it might not be the same Russian team they face in their first match.
I was just slightly disappointed that Torres didn't manage to get into the score sheet with a lot of misses. He seemed to play the "Dirk Kuyt role" for the team. Distracting defenders and allow spaces for midfielders to roam. His contribution to the team was immense other than goals.
Daniel Guiza again scored as a substitute and Silva scored his 1st in the tournament. I wished that Silva will don the Liverpool jersey next season. (No Downing pls!! We will go down the league table if we buy him!!)

No.10 Fabregas in
No. 7 Villa out
I was happy Fabregas came in. EPL fans just know how good this young brother is. (Same age as my sister) He had a good influence on the team after his introduction. 4-5-1 formation indeed by the Spaniards. They really managed to disallow Arshavin from playing his football and the Russian's threat was neutralized to the minimum. If you watch the highlights, you will see how great Spain's midfield dominates the game. Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas and Silva, you would love any of them in your team.No. 7 Villa out

A Germany vs Spain final is nice to watch though.
I'll be climbing down my bed, watching it in Liverpool jersey and shouting:
" Torres, what a HAT-TRICK!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, the HERO
Haha!! The rumour of Mr Ronaldo is getting hotter after his country's exit in the EURO.
From wikipedia, I managed to find some interesting stuffs about him:
Yes, he can score goals!! 42 in total!
Yes, he can dive!! Top 10 selected!
Yes, he can dive!! His childhood clips explains that! (Just for fun!)
See you in LaLiga with Real Madrid, Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. I will only see you perform again in Champions League.
From wikipedia, I managed to find some interesting stuffs about him:
Let's just see what Ronaldo can do to justify his market value!
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro (pronounced [kɾɨʃˈtiɐnu ʁuˈnaɫdu]), OIH, (born 5 February 1985in Funchal, Madeira) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Premier League club Manchester United and the Portuguese national team. With Manchester United, Ronaldo plays primarily as a right winger. He has also been used both in a central attacking role and as a second striker.
A winner of the 2007 English PFA Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards, and third in the 2007 World Player of the Year award, Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the most talented footballers of his generation. Ronaldo also won the 2008 English PFA Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year, giving him back to back victories for both awards. Johan Cruijff said in an April 2, 2008 interview, "Ronaldo is better than George Best and Denis Law, who were two brilliant and great players in the history of United.".
On June 5, 2008, Ronaldo declared his desire to move to Real Madrid if they still offered the same amount of money as stated earlier in the year. He also said he will speak more of the situation but not until after Euro 2008. On June 9, 2008, Manchester United filed an official complaint with FIFA over Real Madrid's interest in signing Ronaldo, which FIFA decided to take no action over. On June 21, 2008, Ronaldo spoke for the first time during Euro 2008 about his desire to move to Real Madrid. He also claimed that it is his personal dream to be the best player in the world, and he feels that a move to Real Madrid is a step forward.
On June 22, 2008, Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster told German television station DSF, "For such a player, we will pay what is necessary because what counts for us is to win the Champions League", and “We won't get him for any less (than €100 million)"But on June 24, 2008, club president Ramon Calderon, said, "There is no 'Cristiano Ronaldo case' because Manchester do not want to sell, In any case, Real Madrid will never pay €100 million euros for anybody".

EURO08 Day 13 to 16 (Quarter Finals)
Day 13
Germany 3-2 PortugalI was sticking with my earlier predicton that Portugal will win the EURO before the game started. And at the next morning I woke up, I was pretty shocked by the result. A Germany win? How could that be? 3-2? A pretty tight game I guess. But in fact, Germany nearly threw their lead away since the scored 2-0 in such blistering pace in the 1st half before getting equalized. Again, Mr Ballack smashed in another of his trademark freekick and secured a famous and important win for the Germans. Weird though to see a team play like god in one game and lose in the coming one. This is also the only quarter finals game without the need of extra time. Many blamed Scolari for the news that he'll leave for Chelsea to be leaked out so soon before the tournament ends. But that is understandable in football. (Probably the bookies were not immunized for the total bets on Portugal and SOME sort of action was taken to protect themselves.)
Shocking result level 3.5 out of 5
Day 14
Croatia 1-1 Turkey (Turkey won 3-1 in penalties)
It's cruel but it's fair. Many think that penalty is an unfair way to decide the winning team, but in my opinion, penalty is one of the best ways in football when it comes to stalemate. Don't you think penalty is something which needs certain technique and mental strength? You need to be calm, you need to be brave, you need to be good in shooting, you need to be focused. There is of course one thing which might also influence the result, which is luck, but that is just a small portion of it. If you train hard enough for the penalty, it's just that easy to hit it with no one in world able to stop.
OK, enough bull shitting on penalties. The 1st penalties needed in EURO 08 to decide the winner happened after some controversial extra time between Croatia and Turkey. Turkey again made it late in the game. Both teams played quite decent and it came to a draw. Volkan , the Turkish goalkeeper who's supposed to stand between the posts was replaced by Recber Rustu, the veteran goalkeeper who made his name in the World Cup. Again, he proved himself with some penalty saves that won the Turks a famous win. Not very impressed with Turkey's technical ability, but they were always fierce and determined not to give up. Some key players such as Tuncay and Arda Turan who both contributed a lot to the team will be suspended for the next game, and this will be a major blow to the squad already without Nihat, their Saviour in their last game against Czech due to injury.
Shocking result level 4.5 out of 5
Shocker of the day!! No one would ever thought that Russia can win Holland which is the hot favourites of the tournament. There are some facts I need to point out in this thrilling game.
The lineup was the same as in their 1st game. 2 holding midfielders, 3 roaming attackers, 1 target man. However, they played poorly in the first half, nearly conceding a couple of goals, thanks to Van der Sar's heroics.
Arshavin, in particular, was impressive against Holland. probably it's due to his freshness where he skipped the 1st 2 games. The one thing I think van Basten was wrong is that he substitued wrongly. Kuyt although was poor with no contribution in attack, he was a pretty useful player due to his ability in covering the full back. The marauding Arshavin and Zhirkov was very threatening to the Dutch, and van Basten did nothing to stop it. Instead, he tried the same trick he used against France by throwing in attackers. The whole system was spoiled and the Holland's backline was highly exposed.
Credits to Russia for gettng so far. Based n what I saw, it's true they were playing better than the Dutch. Kolodin, the defender shocked everyone with his first few long range power shots which tested van der Sar early in the game. Van Basten just couldn't resist the temptation to bring on his attackers to revert back to The "DUTCH way of Football"(A system with no balance with all attackers on the pitch)-which costs them dearly in the past. Substituting Engelaar and Kuyt out so early is a mistake!!
Shocking result level 5 out of 5

Day 16
Italy 0-0 Spain (Spain won 4-3 on penalty)
I didn't watch the whole match due to tiredness, but everyone was shocked byt what happened few days ago before this match. All favorites were out of the competition and Spain were feared to be doing the same. A less exciting game which ended in 0-0. Italy without Pirlo is just nothing in midfield. The lack of creativity and the lack of sharpness of Luca Toni made life less difficult for Puyol and Co. But the problem was Spain's ability to score when Italy were playing so defensively.
Nothing special really happened. Torres was surprisingly substituted early and did not participate in the extra time, but the overall performance was okay by both sides.
When it came to penalties, I was a bit worried for Spain. Although I did not rate Spain as champions contender, but due to the Anfield connection, I would love them to win also. Reina as goalkeeper for the penalty will be much more convincing than Casillas because I know he s not a good penalty saver. But god knows Italy's poor effort on penalties sent the Spaniards to the semi finals with Russia.
With all the big guns gone, I think supporting Spain won't be a bad idea anyway. LOL!
(My friend Yanz, i'll follow you this time! We support Spain together.)

EURO08 Day 12
The last group fixture features Spain vs Greece and Sweden vs Russia
A meaningless game for Spain means that they threw out all their bench warmers into the starting lineup. Alonso, Guiza, Fabregas, Garcia, Santi....
To see Alonso as the captain thrills me a bit. it's always an honour to be a team's captain and I am sure I'll be missing him if he really leaves Liverpool in the summer.
Performance-wise, the team played quite safely. A bad goal to concede when the freekick from Karagounis was not properly defended and Charisteas scored his first goal of the tournament. Luckily, Greece was again toothless in open play and Spain was just lucky to have won the game through the less-known striker Daniel Guiza.
Another game in this group is much more important. Just when most of the people underestimated Russia and predicted a Sweden win, Russia won with a rather spectacular fashion with the introduction of Arshavin, the playmaker who just won UEFA Cup a few months ago. Pavlyuchenko is on the score sheet, so was Arshavin. Guus Hidink showed his magic again with another quarter finals appearance.
Sweden just have to admit that their squad needs some fresh faces. The whole squad is no different than the one in last campaign, and it is always important for any team to have the correct mixture of experience and youth to be successful.
But of course, FOOTBALL IS JUST TOO FAKE!

EURO08 Day 11
Two more matches to go for the group stage to finish and the GROUP OF DEATH is finally finalized. Bye bye to Romania, Bye Bye to France.
The moment I knew Abidal will play alongside Gallas as center back, I knew France will never win but lose the game. You can see how lousy France's defense is when you look back at the highlights. They are lucky not to concede more thanks to lousy finishing from Toni. He could have been number 1 in goal scoring chart if he had converted those glorious chances .
Adding to the defeat is the injury to Ribery. Once he left and Abidal's lousy defending which earns him the "angpau", France collapsed like the building in Szechuan during the earthquake. KAABOOOMM!!!
Italy oh Italy, you were just lucky to have avoided the defeat in the game with Romania. Probably Italy should thank Mutu for that generous gift. Italy, please get knocked out next stage please....
(Arsenal fans, 1 great news to all of you! Nasri played like a school boy, and Wenger must have told him not to play so well to avoid his market value from increasing. Go to Arsenal boy!)
Oh Holland, those who played against you must have visited your country. Why? "Because they all 去荷兰" LOL.
A very impressive Holland performance, better than Spain or Portugal in my opinion. They have strong attackers, great match winners, young squad...and they won all the group matches. But to maintain that in the following crucial knockout games will be hard, and sometimes that kind of inexperience will prove costly. They are now bookie's no.1 favourites and I would love to see them march on. Impossible to see them play against Spain I think in their next game, but I think Russia/Sweden vs Holland will be interesting as well.
(Dunno why, the moment I saw Huntelaar score his 1st goal, I have the feeling that he will join Chelsea this summer to replace the rebellious Drogba. LOL. Hopefully it will happen.)
Romania, blame yourselves for the defeat.

EURO08 Day 10
Final fixture results of any group are always unpredictable (or FAKE !)
Will they win? Will they field second string teams? Will they win their win or die game?
Germany as usual proved their reliance on Ballack. We know how good he is in taking freekicks. And Gomez, the tall no.9, is again disappointing. (Crouch is a lot better than you, Mr Gomez.) Glorious chances were again wasted by him and I doubt his contribution to the team. (Kuyt behgai is better than you, Mr Gomez. At least he scores and assists.)
Sorry to Germany, I will only give you a B for lack of team effort and a useless frontline.
Sorry Austria, I will only give you a C+ for lack of ability among players but a good team spirit.
Croatia again proved that height doensn't matter in football. Spain and Holland players are almost the same and they play good football.
Praise to Klasnic. Heard of this player many years ago. I still remember he was one of the scorers in a Champions League match for Werder Bremen a couple of years ago, which was quite astonishing if I am not mistaken. That was the first impression of him- A skillful striker. But I haven't heard of him for some time already and I almost forget about this unlucky man.
2 kidney transplant is never easy, and to recover from such traumatic surgeries and play in such a highly competitive match is never easy. To score the winning goal is even better and that marks another great story in football. It is always delightful to see players back from serious injuries to be able to play again.
Croatia is in serious business, and Turkey has to be careful!

EURO08 Day 7 & 8 & 9
So sorry to all who are following my EURO series. (I know not many people read. LOL!) I haven't been updating for a few days, mainly because of some special occasions.
DAY 7:
Group C
(Mutu, you will be the culprit if Romania failed to qualify for quarters)
DAY 8
Group D
(Yeah!!!! Torres scored his 1st goal!! Ramos is behgai!! Zlatan is lucky!! Puyol is gone injured!! Casillas is behgai!!)
Some positive and negative indications in this game for Spain. Santi is a surprise to me. Didn't know there is another good but short spanish talent. (Spain didn't play worse after they substitute Xavi and Iniesta out mainly due to this fella.)
Silva again proved his quality, but he can be a lot better than what he is now. Should have been more selfish in front of goal.
Spain is again leaky in defense. The chances of conceding is always there.
Sweden meanwhile are collective but too old. H.Larsson is one of the greatest striker IMO, but he is not that fast anymore. I can see him struggling to keep up to pace on many occasions. But I still rate Sweeden as a team to beat in the quarters.
(I am biased with only a little to write on Russia game. :D)
DAY 9
The last fixture in Group A
(HAKAN YAKIN suddenly climbs up the goal scoring chart.)
Credit to Turkey of course for not giving up after 2-0 down, but they were a bit fortunate to win. Both team's passing were poor, Czech were trying to hold their 2-1 lead with some defensive substitutions, Turkey were clumsy in their challenges.
Nihat just showed that he is capable of wearing the captain armband with that inch perfect winning goal. Turkey has to be careful in their knockout game, probably against Croatia or Germany because the will miss their No1 goalkeeper for his foolish act which earned him an angpao from the referee.
DAY 7:
Group C
Romania 1-1 Italy
I was chatting with hanming when the match was played. And fortunately I was able to see the penalty saved by Buffon. Romania played their team game, and Italy's weak attack means they have to rely on something they also don't know. Can Di Natale score? Can Toni score? Can Pirlo score? Can Buffon score? (Ok, just stop here.) The team is no more the team which won the World Cup. You can say it is a lot weaker than the champion team. Having problem winning Romania/nearly losing to Romania just means Italy will get knocked out of the tournament shortly.(Mutu, you will be the culprit if Romania failed to qualify for quarters)
France 1-4 Holland
Kawanku, Alex was just furious and hopeless after France lost this important game. My prediction is that France will lose the last game as well and get knocked out of the tournament. Just like Italy, the current team is a lot worse than the World Cup squad. Of course it is never easy to find a replacement for Zidane, the motor of the team, but playing pessimistic football with a bunch of old man never helps, especially when the key players are not performing up to standard.DAY 8
Group D
Spain 2-1 Sweden
Villa oh Villa!! I know you are just too eager to leave Valencia, but can you please not play so good. Your scary price tag will just scare interested teams away.(Yeah!!!! Torres scored his 1st goal!! Ramos is behgai!! Zlatan is lucky!! Puyol is gone injured!! Casillas is behgai!!)

Russia 1-0 Greece
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Greece behgai. That's all! Russia should have scored much more. First time seeing Russia play, and they have a couple of good left footed players. No.19, the one who scored against Spain was not in form. Wasted opportunities and Greece nearly punish Russia's generosity with some dangerous attacks.(I am biased with only a little to write on Russia game. :D)
DAY 9
The last fixture in Group A
Portugal 0-2 Switzerland
It's true that Portugal changed 8 players in their starting lineup against the demoralized Swiss, but we know that even with their 'second team', they are still able to beat anyone. However, you somehow know that the players' mentality are not correct. They are in 'never mind' mode, so a defeat was unavoidable. Congrats to Switzerland for their 1st win of the tournament.(HAKAN YAKIN suddenly climbs up the goal scoring chart.)
Czech 2-3 Turkey
I predicted this match as an ugly and competitive game in my Day5 comment, but I never imagined this match to be that unbelievable and fake. Can you believe Cech to concede 3 goals in less than 30 minutes? I never see Cech that shaky before. And you will never believe someone telling you that Turkey won the game if you are watching the match replay until the 70th minute.Credit to Turkey of course for not giving up after 2-0 down, but they were a bit fortunate to win. EURO08 Day 6
Second fixture of Group B showed us just how unpredictable and how fake international football can be. A really shocking result happened between Germany and Croatia. And a funny one as well. Austria can still claim a place in the next stage. (That is just unbelievable!)
Football is never an easy thing to predict. It is not 1+1=2, it's not 180cm better than 170cm. I myself didn't expect Croatia to be able to defeat Germany, the team that produced such an easy victory in their first game. Almost every Croatia players on the pitch are shorter than the Germans. Croatia was really struggling in their first game against Austria. Is Austria better than Germany? This is why football is so fascinating. "The ball is round."is what we always hear others saying, and that is true. And with the improving ball technology, tasks are tougher for any goalkeepers. Balls are faster and swerve more than in the past. It is easier to score now compared to the past. So we can also add some new phrases to football. "Ball is fast!" or "Ball is hard"

I am still not too sure what will happen between Poland and Austria. I really think the group will be dominated by Croatia and Germany, but who knows? Germany could be out as well even with their fantastic start. This is a warning to all confident predictors/investors.

EURO08 Day 5
Haha, back to group A and we are almost there to know the qualifying teams for the next stage for the group.
A few earlier predictions by me have proved to be wrong. Ronaldo is in great form, that is understandable as he is eager to impress Real Madrid.
Another one is Switzerland not qualifying for the quarters. So sad, they ruined their chances and gave away the lead so easily. But credits to Turkey. I knew they were good, and they deserve to be through as well, although it's not certain yet. Czech can still claim a place, but they will have to do better than yesterday. It's positive to see Baros back in the squad, and they were playing brighter than in day 1, but for me it's still not good enough.
1 prediction, however, has already been proven to be true. Scolari will be at Chelsea next season, a thing I was pretty sure about since day 1. And if I am not mistaken, Portugal could well claim the trophy this time.
The last fixture in group 1 will feature a game between reserves(Portugal and Switzerland) , and a game that could be intense and ugly(Turkey and Czech).
Ugly of the day:
Simao beh gai.(I am that critical of him!)
Geng of the day:
Volkan Demirel SAVES of the day.Almost single handedly won the game for Turkey. Cech deserves praise despite conceding.
Easy of the day:
Potugal jian dan lah!
Gan Jiong of the day:
Turkey pa pa!
